James Duckett at the Old Custom House, Barnstaple, Devon. My husband and I had the most wonderful meal - this restaurant was a real find!! The food was presented beautifully and you could see the skill and workmanship that went into it. Highly recommend the Fish Casserole and the freshly made breads are a real treat. The service was very professional and we were made to feel very welcome. Also, such great value - I would have to pay twice as much for food nowhere near as good in Hertford!!

James Duckett's Old Custom House in Barnstaple was a nice evening out while on holiday in Devon. We enjoyed the appetisers of an espresso cup of asparagus soup and a canape. We moved from the table in the window due to the greenhouse effect and the increadibly noisy fridge in the bar. The staff were always helpful and polite. The food was very good - it had some high points and some lower points. The seafood medley and the duck was superb but my passion fruit souflee tasted of egg.

Old Custom House, Barnstaple. This the second time we have dined at the custom house and this visit was every bit as good as the first. We will be going again, what more can I say.

James Duckett at the Old Custom House, Barnstaple. Excellent meal. Innovative and delicious courses. Tasty complementary appetizer. Enough choice on the menu to be interesting but not so much as to be overwhelming. Good choice of wines by the glass. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will definitely visit again - likely to become one of our favourite restaurants. Looking forward to trying the Tasting menu sometime.

Our second lunch visit to James Duckett's Old Custom House Barnstaple was equally as good as the first. £12 for two courses, £15 for three this food is exceptional. Our table thought that the Assiette of Liver: chicken liver parfait, ballotine of foie gras and confit duck was the wnner for starters. The stuffed free range chicken leg wth chicken mousse and black pudding on pearl barley risotto won the main. Efficient service pulled together food that will win a Michelin star within the year.

We visited The Old Custom House recently as a celebration dinner for my daughter and fiancee recently engaged. Our second visit was eagerly anticipated. We were given the specific table we had requested and the ambience was good if a little cold at first. The food again was exceptional for North Devon if a little pricey. Only real issue was a full scale row with a dissatisfied customer which should heve been dealt with more quickly and quietly. We ourselves had no complaints and will be revisiting.

The Old Custom House, Barnstaple. Great food, lovely setting, very friendly service without being overbearing and while it wasn't cheap it wasn't jaw dropping expensive either. All in all a lovely evening and we will definitely be returning.

The Old Custom House in Barnstaple is an excepetional place with atmosphere and charm. The meal itself was very flavoursome and beautifully presented with attentive waiters on hand. Starter of mackerel with tomato and garlic very tasty.
