I had a lunchtime booking at Frere Jacques in Kingston. My starter of fried Camembert was tasty although there was a lot of the accompanying sauce and no salad garnish which would have improved it. My main of Cassoulet from their specials menu was equally as good and just what you'd expect from a French restaurant outside of Carcassonne. Overall not bad a little on the expensive side but good food and good service.

Frere Jacques: Excellent. This is our favourite restaurant. Food was fabulous as always. Staff are attentive and extremely friendly. Lovely to sit outside. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Although Kingston on Thames is a convenient shopping centre for me, that brings a problem: I can't stand shopping. An unavoidable pre-holiday shopping trip had to be sweetened with an hour or so at Frere Jacques. My husband came too this time, so there was a bottle of good house white to share. He had the sea bass, which was excellent, and I love that smoked fish rillette - perfect summer dish. We both loathe the habit of serving main courses in dishes, but hey, we were too contented to quibble.

Buzzy and busy on a summer's evening by the rIver, Frere Jacques delivered an authentic French experience wIth Moules, Frites and rose by the pitcher. A welcome break from chain restaurants, Frere Jacques gives you something a little bit different.

The outside seating at Freres Jacques on the river at Kingston upon Thames was an ideal place to enjoy a meal on a very hot July evening. The restaurant was very busy but the service and food were very good.

In this sunny weather [well, if it lasts...] the best combination is a terrace near the river - but with an awning, for those of us who prefer to stay pale. Kingston's Frere Jacques provides all that, plus great service and superb food. A rillette of smoked salmon & creme fraiche was perfect and the simplest main, omelette & fries, was just right. I could have stayed all afternoon - but did take the ferry back to work, at Hampton, so the holiday mood lasted a bit longer........
