A few metres from Triana, next to the Maestranza Bullring, and in front of the Golden Tower of central Seville, El Patio Sevillano is your mandatory appointment with flamenco. The oldest tablao (a tavern-like venue where there’s always a flamenco show. Non-Spaniards would call it a theatre restaurant) in town, El Patio Sevillano is a multi-award-winning showcase for Spanish folk song and dance. Over an Anadulcian supper, a wide-eyed crowd – predominantly tourists – enjoys the athletic spins and dips of exotically-costumed dancers, dresses flowing, to the soul-stirring sound of Spanish guitar music. Sometimes, everyone gets dancing, arms poised above their smiling heads. El Patio Sevillano is great fun.
