Emerge from Rosenheimer Platz Tube station and you’re virtually on the sidestreet doorstep of La Hacienda, an atmospheric Spanish/Mexican restaurant rub by a Croat who had such a great time in Mexico ten years ago that he’s brought a bit of it to central Munich. Many are those who’re glad he did. La Hacienda is as the name suggests – homely and warm in a typically Spanish way: yellow, and orange walls; chunky wooden tables; candles and fairylights; the sounds of flamenco, merengue and samba in the air. Compared to the city’s other Mexian restaurants, La Hacienda edges towards fine dining (albeit with a loungey feel), attracting a slightly older (25 to 55), professional crowd with money to spend. So what do they buy? The menu changes every week, but bestsellers are consistently the surf and turf (steak and prawns), burritos and fajitas, washed down with Mojitos for her and San Miguel for him. On hot days, La Hacienda’s front opens right out onto the street terrace, prettily decorated with mini palm trees and potted plants.
