About Baumanns Brasserie

Bringing a metropolitan touch to rural Essex, Baumann’s Brasserie in the charming market town of Coggeshall is something of a surprise treat in amongst the higgledy piggledy painted houses and shops. A 16th century building retaining many original features, Baumann’s Brasserie is spacious but cosy with low ceilings held by industrial style pillars, mix and match artworks on the walls and elegantly set tables complete with white linen napkins and gleaming silverware. Menus, put together by award winning eponymous chef Mark Baumann, feature ingredients of the highest quality with all seafood and fish sourced direct from Billingsgate. Creative but comforting all at once, it’s no wonder that Baumann’s Brasserie is considered to serve Coggeshall’s best food.

Signature dish

Seared rib eye of beef, potato and cep gratin, green mayonnaise butter.

Sample dishes

  • Pithivier of braised John Dory, fondue of little gems, burnt pepper jam, £8
  • Charred antelope steak, sautéed herb spaetzla, goat’s cheese and bacon sauce, £17
  • Praline mousse, cinnamon baby doughnuts and vanilla whipped cream, £6.50

Baumanns Brasserie,Coggeshall Essex. I had the frizzled lamb and the skate for mains which I thought were both excellent and the deserts well say no more! It was a nice change from eating out in London in a quaint village setting and the restaurant had a nice feel about it not too stuffy. Again have to mention the deserts well worth leaving some room for them.
