About The Tea Room at the Clarence

toptable Dining Awards 2010 - Runner-up: Over £45, Romance and Hidden Gems.Inside a trendy hotel part-owned by Bono and The Edge from U2, the Tea Room at The Clarence combines modern minimalism with unparalleled luxury. The dining room was originally the ballroom and benefits from a 20 foot ceiling and huge theatrical windows. Head Chef Mathieu Melin uses only the best locally sourced produce and specialises in elegant modern European dishes with an Irish twist. From the a la carte, we recommend the saffron seafood chowder and the dry-aged sirloin of beef, but the regularly changing (and reasonably priced) Market menu is also well worth a try. The extensive wine list is a real treat for connoisseurs.

Signature dish

Roasted breast of duck, confit of leg in a pastilla, caramelised peaches, asparagus spears, sweet and sour orange sauce.

Sample dishes

  • Duck salad (pickled beetroot, Ardsallagh goats cheese, Mesclun salad, dill and honey dressing), €8.50
  • Chargrilled breast of corn-fed chicken, paëlla risotto, chicken jus, €14.50

We availed of the toptable special offer and am pleased to say the food was excellent - each meal was perfectly cooked, delicious and an overall fantastic presentation. Great value, particularly for central Dublin. Wonderful dining room with high ceilings, an old ballroom. The service was excellent too. The only thing I would say is that the portions are almost too big, particularly the starters, and the table was a little too big for our group of 6. But otherwise, I would highly recommend
