About La Fenice

La Fenice restaurant is known in Venice as Taverna La Fenice, a name given by writer Gabriele d’Annunzio during the years of the First World War. Not many restaurants can make that claim. This charming, historic, romantic restaurant has stood beside the world-famous La Fenice opera house since 1907. Think ochre stucco, window boxes, fine Italian dining and superb Italian service in a traditional setting with fresh flowers, suffused light and a delightful terrace at the front of the restaurant surrounded by screens and plants. Even the presence of tour groups doesn’t mar the professional service or the romantic atmosphere. Dishes include La Fenice’s own carpaccio, risotto with scampi and rocket, tagliatelle with cream sauce and wild mushrooms, and turbot roasted with potatoes and tomato sauce. The wine list matches the excellence of the carte.

I thought La Fenice was a lovely place but very expensive for what you got as is all of venice but we ate in a few other places that were slightly cheaper and about on the same par. The sample menu shown is for the cheapest dishes and they do not show all the added charges 12% service charge and a 5 euro cover charge but again no different from any other restaurant in this beautiful city if you fancy booking i don't think you'd go to far wrong with La Fenice.

Visit La Fenice for dinner was disappointing, ordered entree of grilled scallop comes with TWO over-cooked small pieces; Fried artichokes and zucchini flower were essentially ONE piece each and chopped into 4 which covered with heavy batter. Risotto with cuttlefish and pea for two (min. two ppl order) as main should be called Risotto with pea and few cuttlefish legs which also lack of taste. La Fenice is definately overpriced with poor quality of food served.
