I've been to Elizabeths 5 or 6 times and this is the first time I had a mediocre meal. I think I chose badly (the duck a l'orange was mediocre and the main pork dish had far, far too much apple). However, my girlfriend had a rather fantastic Venison dish which was well up to the usual standard. Not the best for me this time, but I'll be back. Loving the White Burgundy, incidentally.

Had a lovely celebratory dinner with my spouse at Elizabeth's and it never fails to impress. There were no special offers available, but we ate off the a la carte menu and the food was great. The steak was beautifully cooked as was the lamb. Wine list was good -- and not too overbearing with choices. Finally, the service was wonderful and very attentive.

Elizabeth's in Rochester is usually a safe bet. This week however was not her finest hour. The complimentary entree was effectively pork scratchings. Our starters were good - pigeon and terrine. My main, monkfish wrapped in proscuitto was very average - a good piece of fish, but the proscuitto was not the best quality. The duck was ok, but nothing to rave about. We passed on desserts. The average age of the diners made us feel young again! We'll be sticking to mid week visits.
