About The Riverview Restaurant

The Riverview Restaurant overlooks the River Axe as it meanders through the secret gardens of Miller's at Glencot House, a Jacobean-style mansion hotel nestling at the foot of the Mendip Hills. Like the entire hotel, The Riverview is a sensory theatre of exotic antiques - there's barely an inch not filled with some elegant curiosity - where vintage luxury successfully combines with relaxed intimacy. All in all, an unforgettable setting in which to enjoy classic French and British fine dining with a contemporary twist. But reading about The Riverview is a poor substitute for being there - true appreciation of its considerable charms demands a visit.

Signature dish

The steak of the day (all meat is from Somerset).

Sample dishes

  • Miller’s seafood cocktail (pink grapefruit segments, avocado, prawns and crab in Marie Rose sauce)
  • Pan fried pink dorade fillet with fennel, mussels in a saffron sauce with basmati rice
  • Warm apple tart tatin with clotted ice cream

The Riverview Restaurant, Wells is set in gorgeous surroundings. The elegant Jacobean house is stuffed full of facinating items and oozes Old World charm. This comes with a price tag though as our meal for 2 was in excess of £100 (inc. 3 glasses of wine and 2 aperitifs). The menu was quite restricted but the food was beautifully presented and delicious. Veg were an expensive extra. Very relaxed and friendly service and I recommend their own Millers Gin. Lovely but pricey dining experience.

It's difficult to give this restaurant anything but full marks. I and my three guests could find only one thing wrong: the elegant silver butter dish, with a removable lid, had no ice in the space provided for ice! Otherwise the place deserves 10 out of 10 for everything.

The Riverview Restaurant, Wells, Stunning!! On arriving at this Manor House, we were shown in to the Drawing room for pre dinner drinks and a look at the menu. The decor in here echoed the whole building, full of 'stuff' - so much to take in! The food was gorgeous, from the squid ink breadsticks with marscapone & truffle oil dip, to the heavenly desserts, it would have meritted a '10' had my lamb been less tough. The service was excellent with the whole experience being a real pleasure.
