About The Felin Fach Griffin

The exterior of Brecon’s Felin Fach Griffin may be of ‘another country pub’ but step inside and it’s almost as if chintz and row upon row of horse brasses never happened. Boldly coloured walls and plush leather couches sit happily alongside scrubbed wooden tables and chairs and historic beams, but it’s the food that we’re here for…the very food that has critics raving and the awards piling up. Locally sourced ingredients, including a selection from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, provide a centrepiece for glorious dishes full of imagination. Make the most of melt in the mouth mains and to die for desserts but remember to leave room for the spectacular selection of Welsh cheeses which really make the meal. The Felin Fach Griffin has won the Best Family Restaurant award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food Guide.

Signature dish

Roast saddle of rabbit with tomato cous cous, confit shallots, carrot purée and tarragon.

Sample dishes

  • Smoked haddock, sweetcorn and pancetta chowder
  • Vialone nano risotto or mushroom ravioli with spinach and baby onions
  • Warm chocolate and hazelnut brownie with popcorn parfait and salted caramel

Very nice lunch menu, offering both a set lunch and an ala carte. My husband and I decided to skip the starters in order to have one of the delicious sounding desserts. My fish was done perfectly, and the triple cooked chips were light and crispy. My husband had the Ploughmans lunch which was very fresh, and the chutney was one of the best he had. The dessert was better than expected, and the expectation was already high.

The Felin Fach Griffin produced interesting food at resonable prices. The food was fine without being special. Lots of local ingredients and a complementary appetiser to start. Servic e was very efficient and there was only a minimal wait for food.
