Tamarind Tree restaurant in Bishop’s Stortford is a great local Indian serving fresh, finely-spiced Indian food. For starters, branch out from chicken tikka and try the tender duck version –it’s delicious. Aloo Chat (cubes of potato cooked with capsicum and tomatoes, mixed with a special chat mussala and served with a puri) makes a cracking starter for vegetarians. Then order up a few dishes for sharing: make sure you include one of the restaurant’s specialities, King Prawn Tawa. It’s a dish of juicy king prawns cooked in a tawa pan with tomatoes, green peppers, green chillies, garlic and ginger. The Goan dish Lamb Xacute (lamb roasted with garlic, ginger and spices) is another unmissable. Breads are freshly made every day (try the sweet-sour naan with ground almonds and lime juice) and there’s a nice choice of desserts – if you’ve got room.
