About Al Vantaggio

Just off the heaving via del Corso you will find an outpost of civility and authentic Roman feeling in Al Vantaggio. Founded in 1920, this traditional eaterie was originally a tavern for carriage drivers, but now has a much more comfortable ambience – half-paneled walls, 17th century style frescoes, white tablecloths, artfully folded napkins, air conditioning. Run by a pair of brothers who grew up with this restaurant and are dedicated to it, Al Vantaggio is a relaxing and elegant place to enjoy a true Roman kitchen with a few Calabrian twists. Dishes include a rather spectacular spaghetti con frutti di mare, rich oxtail stew, and home made tiramisù. Italian wines complete the picture.

Our party consisted of our 2 friends, myself, my wife and son as we had all been to the Italy v England game in Rome. I chose the restaurant because it was open on a Sunday (quite rare in Rome) and close to the Piazza di Popolo. Al Vantaggio is a classical italian restaurant with a good range of pastas and typical dishes. The food was good but the service was very friendly. We did not use the Toptable special offer as we did not all want 3 courses. For Rome, it was reasonably priced.

Food was very good quality although my main dish was tiny. Bizarrely the toptable special menu was dearer than the standard pricing which was disappointing. Staff were nice and great location

Al Vantaggio in Rome proved to be everything we had hoped. Excellent food, friendly staff and wonderful ambience. We will certainly return when next in Rome. Highly recommended.
