Party & group booking

As the 7 Portes is in reality a series of seven dining rooms, from the Salo Gran hung with antique posters (seats 70), through the Bellver with its quarry-tiled floor and low arched windows (seats 40) to the 30's style Pink Room (seats 4) to the intime Green Room (seats 2), every possible event is welcome. The kitchen opens at 1 pm and doesn't close until the wee hours, so if you want to host a meal before or after another event, a lunch to linger over, or a midnight feast, 7 Portes is the place. The restaurant and menu are both classics: dishes include starter of salt cod fritters, main course of Zarzuela with half lobster, and dessert of Pijama ice cream trifle. Great wines and service.

About 7 Portes

Charming Barceloneta has been home to fishermen and their families since the 18th century, and for nearly 170 years the nearby 7 Portes has been serving their catch to appreciative diners. Everyone but everyone has been here, Josephine Baker, John Wayne, the King and Queen of Spain, Pele, but the multi-layered mix of clients makes this bustling place really hum. The seven dining rooms are kitted out in pleasingly traditional style, with tiled floors, dark wooden beams, white linens, and walls adorned with posters and caricatures from the past, and served by expert waiters who are part of the show. The dish here is paella, in many forms and different every day, and all the classics: esqueixada, escalivada, bouillabaisse, zarzuela, and crema catalana. Large portions. A beloved landmark.

Signature dish

7 Portes cannellon.

Sample dishes

7 Portes, Barcelona This place is 'old school' glamour. The menu options were lovely. However I was disappointed that there was a charge for bread added to our bill as it was just placed on the table with some olives whilst we considered the menus. It seemed a bit mean to charge for this. There was a good selection of wines available by half bottle, which is not usual. Pity we had to top up our own glasses during the meal. Service was not as good as we expected.

Disappointing. This was somewhere we had wanted to go on several past trips to Barcelona and so we were pleased to finally make the reservation. The restaurant was unexpectedly quiet (10pm on a Friday evening) and we were tucked away in a back room despite there being plenty of space in the main restaurant. The food was very good, but so it should be, considering the menu prices. The service was old-fashioned and charming but we left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

7 portes- Barcelona The restaurant had a lovely old world feel to it and the paella was amazing. However, the service should have been better for a restaurant of this standard, the red wine we had was freezing so we had to wait for it to warm up a bit, and the toilets should also have been a bit cleaner.
