About Hélène Darroze at the Connaught

Situated in the heart of Mayfair, The Connaught Hotel has always been one of London’s most desirable dining destinations. The wood-panelled dining room exudes old world charm, with bold prints and sumptuous fabrics adding a contemporary flourish. The restaurant, which recently won its first Michelin star, is an ideal setting for business lunches and romantic dinners but also offers a first class brunch menu. Hélène Darroze, who divides her time between the UK and Paris, has created a menu that reflects her passion for the regional, seasonal flavours of South West France. Popular dishes include the saddle and rack of milk fed lamb with caramelised red endives and the line caught sea bass with white asparagus and cockle jus.

Signature dish

Oven-roasted pavé of line-caught sea bass with poached white asparagus from Les Landes and cockle jus with seaweed butter.

Sample dishes

  • Les chipirons de ligne (line-caught calamari, ravioli with confit tomatoes, swiss chard and capers from Pantelleria, black ink reduction, wild garlic emulsion)
  • La Saint-Jacques d’ecosse xxl (xxl Scottish scallop, roasted, quinoa with pimientos del piquillos, marinated palm hearts, foamy lemon beurre blanc with colombo spices)
  • La noisette (hazelnut, roasted and cooked in a praliné mousse, chocolate cream, lemon and thyme foam)

Lunch with colleagues at Helene Darroze was a real treat. the food was superb -as we opted for the tasting menu we were abel to smaple all of the different delights on offer. Service was outstanding, friendly and fun -not the stuffy upper lip you get often in top eateries in london. Would go again -budget allowing.

The food at Hélène Darroze was delicious. I did however feel uncomfortable when making my menu selection due to the pushy nature of the lady serving us. The pigeon apparently was to be served very rare but I was made to feel awkward about wanting it to be cooked a little more. Even ordering the wine seemed to leave me feeling uncomfortable. I've actually dined in similar restaurants across London and this is the first time I've felt unrelaxed. The drilling outside didn't help the ambience.
