About Cigala

Located between Russell Square and Holborn, Cigala is a dream come true if you’re craving authentic Spanish food. Owner and chef Jake Hodges was one of the founders of the legendary Moro in Clerkenwell, so it’s no surprise that his own eatery is very popular with London’s foodies. The menu features classic Spanish dishes like hearty pork, chorizo and bean stew; prawns with garlic and chilli; and delicious paella with monkfish. The friendly service and stylish décor make Cigala the ideal setting for mid-week dinners with friends and family. At lunchtime, you can pop in for a few dishes from their traditional tapas menu and a glass or two from the excellent wine list. We know you’ll be back for more!

Signature dish

Grilled John Dory fillet with braised fennel and green mayonnaise.

Sample dishes

  • Vieras a la gallega (baked Weymouth scallops with albarino wine, softened onions, breadcrumbs), £9.20
  • Entrecot a la brasa (grilled rib eye steak with artichoke and potato gratin and churrasco sauce), £17.60
  • Tarta al whisky (layered ice cream and whisky cake), £5.50

Cigala, WC1N 3LW. Tapas of variable interest and quality. Chicken livers delicious. Chickpea stew very very dull. Will try again, but stick to 'meat' dishes.

Delicious Spanish tapas (not exclusively) at Cigala in London. The service was extremely friendly and efficient. We celebrated a birthday and they could not have been more helpful. Will definitely return and recommend to friends!

From the outside Cigala, London doesn't impress. But dont let that put you off dining there because once inside you'll find the staff welcoming and attentive, the food delicious and the final bill wont make you faint. One piece of advice, don't have the tortilla as it's served cold (not fresh unlike everything else), is 90% egg so tastes like an omlette and is solid not gooey in the middle like it should be.
