The Waggoners

We went to The Waggoners in Ayot Green last night. The sweet potato and leek soup was too spicy for my taste. The seabass was very good and as always the staff were pleasant and attentive.

Doughty's Brasserie

Managed to get a last minute booking on a Saturday evening at Doughty's. The food was very good and the staff as always friendly and helpful. Despite waiting over an hour between starter and main course we would definitely return!

Bohemia

Second time to Bohemia in Selly Oak. Food just as good; the highlight being the slow cooked lamb shoulder with caribbean vegetables. We would definitely return on our next visit to the area.

Riverside Brasserie

We had the 2 course dinner including a glass of wine for £16.50 at The Riverside Brasserie. The main course sea bream was very good although the spicy sausages accompanying it didnt work for me. However they went very well with my husband's pork belly! Very attentive and polite staff. As previous reviewers have said the restaurant is in a lovely setting overlooking the river.

We dined at St John's Chop House on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was almost full by 7:30pm. Our waiter was friendly and informative. Main courses of Stone bass and steak/venison pie were excellent. Very good value with the toptable offer of a complimentary bottle of Syrah or Sauvignon Blanc. Slight negative was the position of our table which meant the waiters & customers brushed passed my shoulder when walking past.

Clos Maggiore

Following a great day watching family in the London Marathon we had dinner at Clos Maggiore. As always the fixed menu offers good value for money. Service was impeccable and the food delicious.

Alimentum

We had lunch at Alimentum in Cambridge from the fixed price menu. Delicious food and very well presented. Service was good and the courses came quickly. The main course portion size was small; the addition of a few extra vegetables would have made the meal more satisfying.

Auberge du Lac

I have been to Auberge du Lac several times and this was the first time I came away slightly disappointed. The main course pork chop was rather dry and chewy. Hopefully just a one off blip!

Axis at One Aldwych

We went to Axis for the pre theatre menu. Service was very attentive and the staff were friendly. Would recommend the chicken main course and chocolate panacotta with roasted strawberries. The eve's pudding was slightly dry but overall very good and would return.
