Good quality steak, well cooked-I asked for rare and got rare steak at Malmaison in Newcastle. Ok, there was a slight mistake with my order in that I got French fried onions rather than chips but they were still tasty. The staff were helpful and friendly and recommended a pretty good shiraz from South Africa.

Malmaison Brasserie, Quayside, Newcastle Upon Tyne - fantastic; will be back. Meeting an old friend ad hoc on a non-descript weekday. Great location. 2 courses for £10 was a great deal (though choices limited should there be dietary restrictions - not problem for us) and food was cooked v well indeed. Service and restaurant set-up and ambience excellent.
