Party & group booking

Hengist is an excellent choice for smart gatherings, business meals and mad celebrations among friends. The private Japanese dining room features black glass tables and red lighting and seats up to 18 while the private Crystal room features a striking chandelier and seats a more intimate 14. Hire of the entire restaurant will allow you to seat up to 72 and would be a most impressive event.

We say…

Hengist restaurant in Aylesford is a terrific modern eclectic restaurant retrofitted into the pleasing surroundings of an ancient edifice. The recent makeover is courtesy of the inspired team behind Thackeray’s in Tunbridge Wells, where Richard Phillips holds a Michelin star. He’s executive chef here too, with Daniel Hatton in the kitchen. Décor is marvelously modern and cool, making smart use of wood, stone and suede with funky detailing like smoked glass or taffeta curtains, while the al fresco terrace is the only place to be when summer comes. The menu is modern French and the wine list inspired.

Signature dish

28-day hung English beef fillet with wild mushrooms, glazed baby onions, creamed parley potato galette and red wine sauce is very popular

Sample dishes

  • Creamed celeriac veloute, beurre noisette, toasted hazelnuts
  • Pan-roasted cod cheeks, pomme puré0, roasted shallots, red wine jus
  • Poached conference pear, chestnut purée, spiced-pear syrup

Sunday Lunch menu, restaurant is nicely decorated, with pleasant seating. Started with Scallops very nice flavour followed by rib of beef, which was cooked nicely. Dessert Blackberry and kentish cox apple BAVAROIS was slightly disappointing as lacked flavour, cheese to follow which was ok. Felt that if we had not gone for additional vegetables and cheese course with Coffee and petit fours then the food would have not been sufficient as portion size appeared below average. Nice choice of Wines

Lunch at Hengist was enjoyable. The cooking was very precise, with very good, if not outstanding flavours. (I particularly enjoyed the cod main course). Very good value. We liked the decor and the service was competent.

Its the first time i have been to the hengist and would definatly make a return visit, the restaurant is cosy and tables nicely spaced out so you are not listening to the couples next to you talking. The food portions are excellent value and menu was using seasonal items so were an excellent quality scallops were superb and the souffle was one of the best i have ever had.
