The Red Cat is a puzzle that works out right every time. It's a big-city restaurant with the decor of a Martha's Vineyard beach house, a crowd-pleaser that's wildly idiosyncratic, with staff that are super- professional and also disarmingly friendly. The streetfront is modern glass, yet when you step inside you'll find reclaimed barn wood painted warm red and white, oversized country antique lamps, 1950's furniture, modern art from local Chelsea painters and
galleries -- the roomy bar is a favourite place to dine that even has its own menu. Casual, bustling atmosphere here. The American bistro menu produces a trick from up its sleeve in every dish: try starter
of quick saute of zucchini with toasted almonds and pecorino, main course of grilled brook trout with sauteed spaetzle with mushrooms, peas and soft herbs, and dessert of banana cream pie with caramel ice cream and banana fritters. Very intelligently organised wine list.
