We say…

The Red Cat is a puzzle that works out right every time. It's a big-city restaurant with the decor of a Martha's Vineyard beach house, a crowd-pleaser that's wildly idiosyncratic, with staff that are super- professional and also disarmingly friendly. The streetfront is modern glass, yet when you step inside you'll find reclaimed barn wood painted warm red and white, oversized country antique lamps, 1950's furniture, modern art from local Chelsea painters and galleries -- the roomy bar is a favourite place to dine that even has its own menu. Casual, bustling atmosphere here. The American bistro menu produces a trick from up its sleeve in every dish: try starter of quick saute of zucchini with toasted almonds and pecorino, main course of grilled brook trout with sauteed spaetzle with mushrooms, peas and soft herbs, and dessert of banana cream pie with caramel ice cream and banana fritters. Very intelligently organised wine list.

Signature dish

Seared breast of duck, radishes, oranges, sugar peas, warm anchovy

Sample dishes

  • Crispy oyster and watercress salad, celery root, horseradish Russian dressing, $14
  • Prime New York shell steak, yukon golds, fennel and aioli with cabernet sauce, $36

The Red Cat at Heapy Near Chorley Lancashire England. 18th Sept. 2009. The reception was welcoming, after a previous visit our expectations were not high as last time it had been overpriced small portions and not particularily good. Our starter of scallops with parma ham was delightful and melt in the mouth, the service was very good indeed and the wine was not over priced. Main course of Belly pork was superb and the portions were ample, we will return soon, staff were excellent a delight.

The Red Cat is a fantastic restaurant - laidback, fun atmosphere, friendly and slightly eccentric service, delicious food and quality wine. The only downside was that we ate too much - easy to do when so much quality is on offer! We will be back.
