We say…

When Phillipe Starck is involved, you know a space will be hip, theatrical, glamorous, quirky and a load of fun, and that describes Asia de Cuba at Morgans to a T. The centrepiece is a white-curtained room with 50-foot long communal alabaster table and 25-foot hologram of a mountain scene with waterfall. There are also cosy banquettes, fireplaces, and more buzz than a logging camp. The exotic menu is East-meets-Latin America and dishes are designed and presented for sharing. Signature dishes include Tunapica, a tuna tartare picadillo style with spanish olives, blackcurrants, almonds, coconut in soy lime vinaigrette on wonton crisps, and crispy calamari salad with chayote, palm hearts, banana, cashews, chicory and radicchio in sesame orange dressing. Chic, stylish party crowd peoples this restaurant that has the indefinable 'it' in spades.

Signature dish

Grilled strip steak, gingered chickpea fries, calabaza melon slaw, citrus ginger soy

  • Crab croquetas, jicama, mango, green apple and mirin infused slaw, roasted red pepper remoulade, chili ponzu dipping sauce, $27

We had an average meal at Asia De Cuba, Manhattan. Over-priced for the quality of the food, was expecting to be wowed but disappointed by every course. Staff were great, but for a 20% service charge I would hope so. Wouldn't go back or tempted to try the London version. Plus side - decor.

With the meal being booked as a 40 birthday treat I expected not to be sitting waiting for over 40mins for our table. The staff didn' t know where we would be going and it was all a bit confusing. They were very apologetic despite then seating us next to the door practically in a corridor. The food was overfacing, and I would recommend that anyone take 1 starter and 1 main between 2 people rather than the advised 2 starters and 1 main - way too much food. It was however wonderfully delicious
