We say…

Yet another hit from the Ramsay stable, the York & Albany restaurant – set inside the luxe boutique hotel of the same name – is part Recency-era sitting room, part 30s-style gentlemen's club. The elegant dining room boasts views of Regent's Park and is awash with muted, minimalist colours and parquet floors, but the star of the show is celebrity chef-patron Angela Hartnett. The menu at the York & Albany is infused with her Italian heritage, and knock-out dishes include the roasted and confit red-legged partridge with Savoy cabbage, kohlrabi and date purée, and the baked Victoria plum tart with honey ice cream. Wine list highlights include the 2007 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and the 2006 Pouilly Vinzelles.

Signature dish

Loin of venison, date quinoa, wilted chard leaves, pear and apple purée.

Sample dishes

  • Braised lamb shoulder broth, pearl barley, winter vegetables
  • Pan-fried sea bream with Jerusalem artichoke purée, roasted salsify, wild mushrooms
  • Chocolate yoghurt, prune purée, toasted almonds

York & Albany FANTASTIC food, best food ever, each mouth full had a number a flavours, lovely setting. Very unhappy... I booked for the £20 deal, the waiter did not explain which section of the menu was in the deal, it was not clearly stated, Instead of £40 for dinner, it cost me £88! My table was booked for 7.30pm, I was told the deal was between 6 - 7pm, which I was unaware off.

A beautiful space to 'pub it up' but when you get to the dining room it looks like an after thought. The lighting was uneven, too bright in some places and dark in others. The menu makes a good impression overall until you discover that after 7pm all the comfort food is off and what's left are marginal meaty mains. HOWEVER, if you love good beef, get there for the cote de boeuf for two and all the other decorating miscalculations will disappear. Good service and lively crowd.
